The HSE have warned that Ireland could be about to face the ‘worst flu season on record’ in the coming weeks, and are urging those in risk groups to get the flu vaccination as soon as possible. It follows a “heavy” outbreak of the H3N2 virus in Australia and New Zealand – with both countries currently recovering from their worst outbreaks on record.

Influenza thrives in workplace environments infecting around 5 – 20% of people each winter. Once infected, a contagious employee may have up to 3 days before symptoms appear, giving the virus opportunity to be passed to colleagues, customers and family members through normal everyday contact.

It can take up to two weeks before the vaccine becomes fully effective, so it’s advised to get the vaccine before the flu virus reaches peak levels. The vaccine will be available in Phelans pharmacies throughout the flu season but receiving it earlier is crucial to preventing flu this winter.

The exhibition, O’Farrell’s second at The Hayfield Manor, will feature 10 new works and is on view from October 10 through to October 29.

‘The Light of other days’ refers to the imagery that Roisin O’Farrell has drawn from Irish country Life. One generation away from her Cork roots and now living in Co Wicklow, O’Farrell’s work has been influenced by great Irish Country Houses such as The Hayfield Manor, Killruddery House, Ballyfin Demense and many others.

Associations and illusions resonate in these paintings. Formal drawing rooms bathed in light, colourful families of welly boots by the kitchen door, loose landscapes in fully saturated colour. The work explores light, time and space within the setting of the Irish country home with both memories of the past and hopes for the future.

Róisín says of her work: “It’s about life, it’s about story – these old houses have their stories written all over them, where nothing is perfect or pristine. My experience of family is a very warm one, but it’s not a perfect one and I think that is true for many of us. My work is a reflection on the idea of ‘beauty in imperfection’. That both can co-exist together; more than that, that the beauty is found in the imperfection of family, of home and of us”

Róisín O’Farrell, is one of Ireland’s most successful working artists, exhibiting with established galleries in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the US. Her work is in numerous private collections, hotels and has been featured in print, TV, Film and currently features in the RTE Drama, Acceptable Risk.

The excitement levels were sky high when I walked into the store because I have been a huge fan of Pippa for months.

It’s about feeling good and looking after your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. But more importantly it’s about having fun and enjoying the outdoors. Picture the park full of fitness classes, inspirational talks, foraging and mindfulness walks, yoga classes, good local food and lots of fun”.

“We will set up a number of stage areas around the Park for activities such as yoga, tai chi, pilates, zumba and high intensity training. We will have a designated kids area where they can enjoy yoga, zumba, mindfulness and other fun activities. During the day celebrities and local elite sports people including Olympian Sanita Puspure, former Cork footballers Juliet Murphy and Pa Kelly and Sinead Kane, the 1^st Irish female to run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. Neil O’Brien and Gerry Hussey, both performance psychologists and coaches to elite Irish athletes, will take part in workshops and panel discussions on nutrition, mental fitness, resilience and positive psychology,” said Niall O’Callaghan.

The event runs from 10am- 5pm and is suitable for all ages. Entry is free. Additional car parking facilities will be provided on the day.
