Happy Friday!

It’s the perfect time to grab a cocktail, sit outside and bask in the sunlight – while we can! Monika Coghlan of Pepperazzi Food Styling & Photography has whipped up a simple recipe for a homemade Basil & Cucumber Gin Smash that will make your weekend!

Serves: 4


  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • Handful of fresh basil leaves, plus 4 for decorating
  • 4 shots of gin
  • Tonic water
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Crushed ice


  1. Using a vegetable peeler, peel four strips of cucumber lengthwise for decoration. Put aside.
  2. Slice the rest of the cucumber, place it in a cocktail shaker together with the basil leaves and bash until fragrant. Add the gin, lemon juice and crushed ice and shake for a couple of minutes.
  3. Fill the glasses with some crushed ice and strain the cocktail equally into the glasses.
  4. Top up with some tonic water, and decorate with cucumber strips and basil leaves.
