There’s also ample parking right outside their door, meaning it’s super easy to pop in and pamper yourself!

Marcelle Crotty is the proprietor of this beauty haven. Having started out her career as a medical/legal secretary and then working in human resources at RTÉ, it may sound surprising that she now runs such a successful salon.

“In September 1998, I started my first year as a Beauty Consultant in Portobello College in Dominic Street as a part-time course two evenings a week.”

From there, Marcelle gained much of her initial experience and confidence with the industry at Anne McDevitt’s Beauty Clinic, whilst studying, and was offered a full-time position once her course was completed, due to her natural talent, passion and dedication.

“The practical experience and training gained during this time gave me the practical tools and confidence to step out on my own.”

Live, Laugh, Love

In 2000, Marcelle relocated to Kilkenny and opened a small beauty business with a close friend of hers in hairdressing. She then completed her electrolysis training at Kilkenny Beauty College, adding to her portfolio.

Four years later Marcelle returned to Dungarvan to open her own beauty salon and in 2007 she joined the teaching staff at NABTET in Dublin, teaching a City & Guilds Beauty Therapy course. “Enjoying teaching so much, I took a two-year break from running a salon and started teaching evening courses in Coláiste Chathail Naofa.”

Then, in 2011, the Marcelle jumped on the opportunity to reopen her own beauty business, “which I opened, believe it or not, on April Fools Day!” Marcelle built up a large client base and continued teaching before accepting that she was getting very busy and successful and would need a larger premises and another set of hands.

Marcelle moved her business to a larger venue in the same building and hired Angela in 2016. “And the story begins there!

“Things have been hectic and busy over the last two years but with the help of Angela, my lovely, dependable therapist, we are doing very well.”

Expanding into areas that other salons in the town haven’t, like microneedling and anti-surgery facials, have brought a great boost to the business, seeing the client base grow and revenue soar.

“In September 2018, both Angela and I are going to complete advanced microneedling training through Juliette Armand and are aiming to introduce their Elements range early next year.” Marcelle is also hoping to complete an advanced aesthetics course in electrology in 2019, boosting the salon’s offering once again. Soon it’ll be a one-stop-shop for all your beautification desires!

“We are a small beauty salon, so we always aim to give clients a professional, personal and I feel, most importantly, a friendly service. It’s important to be happy in your job!”
