What makes a woman beautiful?

So many things make a woman beautiful, but if I could choose one quality, it would be confidence. Women are forces of nature. We have power and strength in so many ways and I feel once a woman unlocks that, she also unlocks pure happiness. Beauty is a look but also a mindset. I love how everything from makeup to fashion to hard work can all give women a sense of empowerment and confidence. A woman should not just feel beautiful, she should know she is beautiful and radiate that!

What are your thoughts on the power of makeup?

The power of makeup is in direct relation to the beauty of confidence. Confidence is beauty and beauty is confidence! The great thing about makeup is it allows you to choose a dimension to add to yourself, or simply enhance what is already there. A lot of things in life you can’t choose but with makeup the options are endless and you can choose from so many different products… you can mix colors and textures… you can bring out the best in yourself and be whoever you want to be. Doing your makeup allows you to help make the outside of your body feel as incredible as what you are feeling on the inside. I love that each individual person can put on as much or as little as they choose or feel and each individual person becomes an artist in a way!

Did you learn any beauty tips or tricks from your mother or grandmother?

Funny enough, the past few years have been a lot of fun because I have been able to teach my mom a lot of makeup tips and tricks. One of the things I absolutely love about my mom is how effortlessly beautiful she is. She has almost always preferred a more natural look, but lately she has asked for advice and has begun experimenting with makeup and it has been so fun to have that time with her to just be girls and to try makeup on, talk beauty routines, and experiment!

Who is your beauty inspiration / icon?

My entire life and modeling career I have always looked up to Helena Christensen. Not only was she a big model and a Victoria’s Secret Angel, but she was a powerful and well-spoken woman and that was important to me. Now she is a designer and photographer on top of being a model, so I continue to look up to her because she is still following her dreams, chasing her passions, and working hard!

What makeup items do you always have with you?

Items that I have with me at all times are concealer, a brow pencil, and blush. I love having blush because I travel a lot and if I am getting off a plane or going straight to work, I love being able to add a little color and to add a little bit of a fresh feel to my look.

What is the one makeup item that you cannot live without?

I cannot live without a brow pencil. Of all of the features on your face, your eyes and your eyebrows are what convey emotion. So, if I have strong and well-shaped brows, I look the most put together and feel the most beautiful because the base of my emotions are front and centre!

How do you translate catwalk to sidewalk makeup?

The older I get the more I take risks and experiment with looks. On the catwalk, you have these crazy intricate looks that are exhilarating, inspired, and exciting. Lately I have been taking that mentality to the streets!

What beauty trends are you most excited about for this year?

I love that having a glow is back. Glowing healthy skin is so beautiful to me. Light foundations are my favorite thing right now. I want to see the skin shine through and radiate. I’m all about dewiness. Once you have that you can experiment with all of the fabulous new colour trends and shades around your eyes. I love mixing beauty with a dash of rockstar.

What is your beauty routine from the moment you wake up in the morning?

The first thing I do when I wake up is drink a bottle of water and wash my face with water only because I don’t want to strip away too many of my natural oils. After that, I usually put on some vitamin E oil as a moisturiser to prepare my face for the day and for applying my makeup. From there I start applying my makeup with moisturiser, concealer, and then whatever style and vibe I am feeling for the day!

What is the best beauty advice you have ever received?

Someone once told me that your makeup should reflect how you feel on the inside. I really take that to heart. Sometimes I want to have a natural laid-back look and other times I want to feel like a powerful movie star, so my makeup will always mirror that. I love that you can change your makeup and beauty look as often as you want depending on your mood and style. I also have learned that it is incredibly important to take care of your skin. Your skin is your canvas. Drink tonnes of water, never go to bed with makeup on, and make sure that you give your skin time to breathe and take in oxygen sometimes! Be happy with your skin and be good to it. Makeup to me is a beauty enhancer and not a mask to hide behind.

Have you always been passionate about fashion?

I have always had a lot of respect and admiration for people who go all out on fashion. Fashion is great because you can choose how you appear and showcase yourself to the world. We can’t really choose what we look like, but we can choose how we dress and how we wear makeup, and there is power, artistry, and self-expression in that. I feel like I have more respect for this and understand its power more and more every single day.

What does it mean to be a Maybelline New York spokesperson?

It means the world to me. I have been wearing Maybelline since I was a little girl. All of the young girls of different ages who wear Maybelline,  who are trying to discover themselves as women, who are shy sometimes and outgoing at others, who are chasing their dreams, I AM YOU! I am honored to be able to be a voice and to be able to represent not only Maybelline, but all of the girls out there who are wearing Maybelline because these young girls are the future. They are hard workers, they are dreamers, and they are people who will make a difference! These young girls are going to change the world. They are powerful and they are beautiful and that is what Maybelline stands for. I could not be more proud to represent them.

What was the first Maybelline New York product you ever used?

My first makeup product ever was mascara. I was 16 and I vividly remember one Easter I walked into my mom’s bedroom and told her I now felt ready to start wearing makeup. So, the next day she took me out shopping and I grabbed this pink and green mascara. It was actually the Maybelline Great Lash. It was a very proud moment.

Do you enjoy reading? What is your favorite book?

I love reading. Growing up I was a book worm and you could always find me in a corner immersing myself into a story or adventure. Fantasy was always my favorite because it took me to places I could only find in a book’s pages or in my dreams and it’s always fun to escape for a while. I am such a Harry Potter nerd. I guess some people just never grow up and stay young at heart!

Do you exercise? What is your favourite workout?

I exercise almost every single day. It’s one of my favourite ways to start the day because it’s truly my ‘me’ time. I love changing it up, so it’s not the same thing every day. One morning I will go for a run, the next day I’ll box, and others I will lift etc. I think it’s really important in life to push yourself and to constantly challenge your body and mind!

What are you studying?

I always say the best school in life is to travel and to meet as many different people from as many different places as you can. There is no better learning lesson than seeing how others live, studying their history and experiencing the different cultures.

What are your plans after modeling?

I love working and I love challenges, so I will always be up for something new. I love fashion and would like to always be doing something within the industry whether creating my own designs or collaborating with a designer I admire. I would also love to get more into TV and hosting. Above all of this though I really would love to start my own charity and use my platform to help others around the world. That is what is most important to me.

What gives you confidence in your job as model and in life?

Just like everyone I have my ups and downs with confidence but I always try to remind myself that that is perfectly okay! We all have so much to offer the world and everyone has their own unique set of characteristics, strengths, and traits. I always have the mindset to work hard and treat people well and I am confident that I do that so the rest will always follow!
