The Iconic Lipstick Used In Breakfast At Tiffany’s…

By Emily Eyra

Audrey Hepburn is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” , and as this is my all time favourite movie there was no way I couldn’t pick up THAT lipstick, especially that now i know it was created especially for Audrey Hepburn and the movie! It is made by Revlon and it’s called “Pink in the Afternoon”, which is interesting because Audrey Hepburn also once starred in a movie called “Love in the Afternoon”.  The Lipstick is a creamy, easy to apply blend, with a great shade of pink, not girly pink or bright pink, just a very sophisticated, casual, and adorable colour.

The packaging is very simple and iconic to Revlon, and Audrey herself! as well as being discreet and very pretty. The Lipstick is easily recognisable from the movie, which almost makes one a little bit starstruck when applying it in front of the mirror or a demure pocket compact. It feels as if you own a prop from one of the most iconic movies. You can pretend to be Holly Golightly…even if just for a moment.

The lipstick appears in the movie in the famous scene towards the end where Holly Golightly is sitting in a taxi with Paul Varjak (George Peppard). She has just gotten out of jail, but is still looking amazing and is on the way to the airport. She is getting changed out of her old clothes and into an amazing black dress. When she is touching up her makeup while Paul Varjak is reading the letter from José you will see her apply the lipstick.

I found that still even now, the lipstick sells out extremely quickly. I’ve even heard that some people can’t seem to find it at all. It is a beautiful colour, but I also think it’s amazing how this iconic movie can have such a huge impact on the sales of the lipstick 53 years later. It just goes to show how much of a positive impact Audrey Hepburn has in the fashion and beauty world. Its also so beautiful just knowing that there are lots of other girls sharing my passion for Audrey Hepburn and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.

If you are lucky enough to find this ‘Iconic’ lipstick made Revlon called Pink in the Afternoon or 415, remember to stop people and ask Holly Golightly’s famous line… ‘How do I look’?… they will always reply “Amazing”!
